You Don’t Know Me

You Don’t Know Me

By: Tracy G. Thornton

Did you know a new language has been developed? Most people in the church circuit call it “Christian-ese.” We speak in catchphrases that attempt to somehow spiritualize us like ‘Praise the Lord’ or ‘God is good’, and while our talk should be an indication of our walk with Christ, many of our hearts are far from Him. People are literally name-dropping on the Lord Jesus Christ, without truly knowing him at all.

Recently, I watched a news report about a so-called psychic. She had been jailed on a 4th-degree felony theft charge after accusations surfaced of her cheating $30,000 from one of the customers. The story featured by the news channel included a telephone call to the business of the woman.  What does a psychic have to do with Christianity? Once the call reached her voicemail, she spoke in Christian-ese. At the end of her recording, she said ‘Have a blessed day’. Since God is not into psychics, it makes you wonder who is doing the blessing.

A travesty it has become to witness those who pretend to know Christ but lack the indigenous evidence of a true relationship with the Master. My friends, there are many wolves dressed as innocent sheep among us today. They speak with lofty words, teach and preach with fire and vigor and prophesy of fortune and fantasy. Yet, they do not know Him. Their personal lives are riddled with deceit, dishonesty, and delusion. They are liars, cheaters, and coveters. They love and worship themselves while using God as bait to draw in captive silly women and foolish men.

According to the Word of God, if we neglect the responsibility of keeping His commandments, we are liars and the truth is not in us. Many are struggling in their lives, trying to get prayers through, but you are a stranger to Him. Others have become frustrated unable to get a word from Him on their own because they do not even recognize His voice.

Today, God is saying ‘You don’t know me, but you can’. The Lord desires to know you today. Let Him into those places in your life where you have kept him at bay. Obey His commandments and take heed to His word. I encourage you today to get to know Jesus. If you already know Him, get to know Him even better. Do not just learn to speak Christian-ese, learn how to live like Christ.
